Counseling & Psychology Program
The mission of the Department of Counseling and Psychology is to educate and train counseling and psychology professionals by utilizing the highest external standards set by state and national licensing/certifying boards. Highly qualified faculty design and deliver counseling and psychology programs through a wide range of instructional modalities. The counseling and psychology degree programs provide graduate education at regional and national locations. The program seeks qualified students from diverse populations.

Chi Sigma Iota
Membership in Chi Sigma Iota, as specified in the Bylaws, is by chapter invitation to both students and graduates of counselor education programs.
- Students must have completed 9 semester hours of full-time graduate coursework in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program.
- Have earned a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 system

Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)
CACREP accreditation provides recognition that the content and quality of the education offered by the accredited program has been evaluated extensively and meets standards set by and for the profession. The student can be assured that appropriate knowledge and skills areas will be included that are necessary for entry into the counseling field. The student as a consumer can also be assured that the program is financially stable. As a graduate of CACREP accredited program, a student applying for certification by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) will have the two (2) years of postsecondary supervised experience waived. This facilitates and expedites one’s experience in becoming National Certified Counselor (NCC). In addition, some states will waive a portion of the post-graduate supervised experience required for licensure.
